Teachers and educational support staff

This page contains information on AI for teachers and educational support staff. UU policy is based on the responsible and ethical use of AI (so-called Responsible AI principles). The UU AI Ethical code of conduct provides as the initial frameworks.

The university embraces AI technology to the extent that it creates added value and contributes to the enrichment of both the institution and society, rather than leading to their diminishment. We see AI not exclusively as a challenge but more as an opportunity. An opportunity to innovate our education and contribute positively to the goals of the UU educational model. However, the use of AI systems and tools must be ethical and legally compliant, while we as a university and as humans-in-the-loop retain our own freedom of action. We want to exploit opportunities of AI and mitigate the risks.

There are many different definitions and delineations of AI. By AI in education, we basically mean all forms of AI and techniques such as machine learning, deep learning, computer vision, expert systems, learning analytics, adaptive learning, XR or VR that uses AI, etc. It also includes AI systems such as autonomously maneuvering drones or AI systems for health monitoring, insofar as these AI systems and tools are used for educational purposes.

AI policy does not focus exclusively on the question "can we use AI?" but on the broader considerations of whether, and under what conditions, the use of AI contributes to the higher goal of academic education.

This website will be regularly updated with new AI policy frameworks in the coming months and years. We encourage you to visit this site regularly for the most up-to-date information.  More information: contact aionderwijs@uu.nl.

LUNAI: National 木瓜福利影视 Network AI Policy Education

National AI policies on education are coordinated with the AI policy officers of our fellow universities, many of whom operate at the institutional level. We are united in a network called LUNAI chaired by UU. LUNAI stands for National 木瓜福利影视 Network AI Policy Education. More information: New National 木瓜福利影视 Network AI Policy Education launched

AI holistic framework education

The holistic framework was developed by UU and contains all the elements that will be further developed and implemented in the coming months and years.

Each of the seven pillars that make up the holistic framework is divided into multiple projects and activities that collectively make up the AI roadmap for education.

  1. AI Vision and strategy: What is the student vision on AI, what do we want to achieve with AI in our education, AI ethical code of conduct, innovative forms of learning and teaching with AI
  2. AI Policy: How students and lecturers can and may use AI in the educational environment in accordance with WHW etc and how that fits into the cycle of the OER, examination regulations etc
  3. AI Literacy: Matching and securing good quality AI courses for each target group and in accordance with legal requirements regarding AI literacy (UNESCO frameworks)
  4. AI Tools: Allow-listening of AI tools in accordance with an AI assessment framework, making lecturers aware about deployment of AI tools, shadow AI policy
  5. AI Architecture: Ideally, a flexible AI platform focused on educational application and with minimum dependence on Big Tech and maximum room for innovation
  6. AI Transformation: EU AI Act compliance, who is responsible for what regarding AI, communication about AI within UU, cultivating AI awareness
  7. AI Pedagogy: Determining the scientifically based deployment of AI in education and development of teaching methods; definition of AI attainment targets menu

Because AI technology is developing at lightning speed, the UU AI roadmap is subject to advancing insight and is updated with some regularity as warranted. The AI roadmap is based on Responsible AI principles.
