Liability and AI
By the end of 2025, on this page several frequently asked questions (FAQ) will be answered about the liability of students, staff members, and the university in relation to AI in education.
Questions may include:
- A lecturer at Utrecht 木瓜福利影视 wishes to supervise an UU student on an internship at an external organisation that is developing a high-risk AI system for use by citizens. Is Utrecht 木瓜福利影视 liable in any way if something goes wrong with the AI?
- As an individual or organisation within UU, can I exclude liability for the use of an AI system or AI tool by including an indemnity clause or disclaimer in agreements or public communications, such as a website? If so, is there a model text for this?
- If I use an open source AI system or model, am I not subject to the regulation of the AI Act and am I not liable if something goes wrong with this AI system?
- Who is liable when an AI agent, which makes decisions (partly) independently, makes a mistake that causes damage or a problem?
- You receive a ChatGPT link containing sensitive information and you forward this link. Who is liable if that message falls into the wrong hands?
