Hereditary problems? We can help.
Hereditary diseases and harmful physical characteristics are the biggest health problems in purebred dogs and cats. The Expertise Center for Veterinary Genetics is committed to tackling these issues in a structured way鈥攏ot only with knowledge, but with concrete, applicable solutions.
PetScan
We combine genetic research and clinical data to sustainably improve the health and well-being of companion animals. With our PetScan monitoring system, we map the prevalence of hereditary disorders based on data from veterinary practices. This approach makes it possible to monitor populations in a targeted manner and to effectively prioritize the approach to hereditary issues.

Fit2Breed
Through our breeding platform Fit2Breed, we analyze the genetic diversity and population dynamics of specific breeds鈥攅ssential information for healthy and future-proof breeding. Fit2Breed provides breeders with the right tools and insights for responsible breeding. This enables breed associations and breeders to work in a targeted manner to strengthen and improve the health of their breed.
DNA testing and storage
We also offer DNA testing and storage, with professional guidance on proper use. These tests are available to breeders and owners, and can also be requested by veterinarians for their clients. In addition, we store DNA from dogs and cats so that it remains available for future research.
Screenings, breeding guidance, and education
We guide breeders and breed associations in screenings and making responsible breeding decisions, and we organise an annual symposium. In addition, we establish health criteria, such as the short-snout criteria, which veterinarians can use to advise breeders on selecting suitable breeding animals. In this way, we work together to create healthier generations of pets.
With this integrated approach鈥攆rom scientific research to practical application鈥攚e move our field from treatment to prevention of hereditary disorders. In this way, we are working together to build a healthier future for pets.
