Preventing hereditary disorders
At the Expertise Centre for Veterinary Genetics, we are dedicated to preventing hereditary diseases and welfare issues caused by extreme conformations in dogs and cats. We focus on identifying DNA mutations that cause hereditary disorders and develop DNA tests to support breeders in informed decision-making. By sharing knowledge and by close collaboration with veterinarians and breeders, we aim to shift veterinary care to preventive medicine. Through innovative research, we’re working towards a future where inherited health problems are drastically decreased.
In the media
Hereditary disorders and extreme conformations cause serious welfare issues in dogs and cats. Experts from the Expertise Centre for Veterinary Genetics regularly appear in the media to inform the public about the impact of inherited disorders on the welfare of dogs and cats.
Thanks to the generous support from our Friends of VetMed under the Healthy Breeding theme, we can continue vital research to improve the health of dogs and cats. Every contribution helps. Want to support us or learn more about our projects?
