Animal Welfare Body Utrecht
The Animal Welfare Body Utrecht (Instantie voor Dierenwelzijn Utrecht) helps to perform proper and responsible animal experiments within the legal frameworks, and works with others on optimal animal welfare and optimal use of research models and alternatives. We work closely together with researchers, research analists, biotechnicians, animal caretakers, managers and directors to maintain a culture of care in animal experiments.
Services
We offer advice and support on:
- designing a study or project with animal experiments
- applying for a license for conducting animal experiments
- replacement, reduction and refinement (3Rs)
- education necessary for being qualified and competent to work with laboratory animals
- monitoring animal welfare during acquisition, accommodation, care and use of animals
- rehousing and socialization of laboratory animals
Other activities
We also conduct the following activities (amongst others):
- monitoring, supervising and auditing laboratory animal welfare
- advising the Animal Ethics Committee on project proposals
- monitoring and contributing to training and education of people working with laboratory animals
- developing internal policy on animal experiments
- communicating with staff and public about animal experiments
- acting as point of contact for the Netherlands Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority (NVWA)
