Creating impact through health innovations that address current and future societal challenges.
Our mission is to safeguard health, improve the diagnosis and treatment of disease, and develop solutions that are both affordable and accessible. At Utrecht Life Sciences, we unite expertise in human, veterinary, and plant health to drive sustainable innovation and resilience. By combining molecular insights with technological advances, we create the foundation for breakthrough solutions to the societal health challenges of today and tomorrow.
Utrecht Life Science network
Utrecht has the highest concentration of Life Sciences knowledge and expertise in Europe within 1.5km2 walking distance. At Utrecht Life Sciences we bring together public and private partners at Utrecht Science Park to collaborate on interdisciplinary research, innovation, and education.
Our network of more than 4000 Life Sciences researchers is organized into six interconnected thematic communities. These communities provide the foundation for collaboration, where scientists connect, support one another, and launch new initiatives. By sharing knowledge and aligning efforts, they advance interdisciplinary research to tackle pressing challenges in health and sustainability. We study everything from the smallest molecular processes to large-scale planetary dynamics through scientific research, intensive collaboration and practical applications. Working together across diverse platforms for societal impact, our communities ensure that scientific breakthroughs are translated into meaningeful benefits for society. The synergy between diverse institutions provides unique opportunities to turn scientific discoveries into real-world solutions.
Organization
The Life Sciences network is coordinated by a small core team headed by the vice dean of Life sciences under responsibility of the deans of the faculties of Science, Medicine and Veterinary Medicine. The Life Sciences Board (representatives of the core partners) advises on strategic topics related to current and future developments that are of relevance to Utrecht Life Sciences.
