Societal challenges are becoming increasingly complex and urgent. There is a growing need for knowledge and practical insights to drive transitions in areas like climate change, aging populations, disease treatment, and healthcare. Through interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary education and research, we rise to meet today’s most pressing societal challenges. 

Our strength

Utrecht hosts the highest concentration of Life Sciences knowledge and expertise in Europe. All within just 1.5 km2 walking distance. The synergy between diverse institutions fuels exceptional learning opportunities, merging cutting-edge innovation with practical application, turning discoveries into real-world impact. The Utrecht Science Park is home to a remarkable cluster of institutions. This includes the Hubrecht Institute for molecular and developmental biology, the Westerdijk fungal biodiversity institute, the Dutch National Institute for Public Health and the Environment, the ľ¹Ï¸£ÀûÓ°ÊÓ of Applied Sciences. Utrecht ľ¹Ï¸£ÀûÓ°ÊÓ, including the Netherland’s only Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, the ľ¹Ï¸£ÀûÓ°ÊÓ Medical Center Utrecht, and the Princess Máxima Center, Europe’s largest pediatric oncology center. Together this rich ecosystem forms a powerful foundation for interdisciplinary research and education.

Education

We educate the next generation of Life Sciences professionals through cutting-edge programs for students and professional training. As home to Europe’s biggest Graduate School of Life Sciences (GSLS), we offer interdisciplinary education to the life scientists of the future. With over 30 education programs, we cover a wide range of research topics: from plants and animals to patients, from molecules to populations. In addition, our educational landscape includes a broad range of Bachelor's programs and various professional training programs, such as those for pharmacists and (veterinary) doctors.

The combination of Utrecht ľ¹Ï¸£ÀûÓ°ÊÓ’s seven faculties, Utrecht ľ¹Ï¸£ÀûÓ°ÊÓ of Applied Sciences, and collaborations with campus knowledge institutions provides a broad spectrum of both fundamental and applied knowledge to tackle complex societal challenges.
