Academic staff

As a Law and Technology in Europe student, you will receive a high-quality education in a stimulating academic environment. Our teaching staff are experts in their field and have substantial experience in practice. Our faculty researchers will share their knowledge and may invite you to assist in their own research. Besides this, our teaching staff will use their network and help you connect with professional organisations and institutions of interest. Guest lecturers from legal practices, government agencies and other institutions will share their experience, and offer inside information about the latest developments in the field of law and technology.

Core lecturers of our programme include:

  • Professor Nadya Purtova, Professor of Law, Innovation, and Technology at Utrecht ľ¹Ï¸£ÀûÓ°ÊÓ’s School of Law. Her research focuses on how to understand and tackle socio-technical change related to information technologies in areas including data protection law, data ownership, data law and (collective) governance. 
  • Dr Evelien Brouwer, Assistant Professor Public Law, Migration & Technology. Her research focuses on the intersection of fundamental rights, particularly EU asylum and migration law, and technology.
  • Dr Alessia D’Amico, Assistant Professor Competition Law. Her research focuses on the regulation of digital platforms, in particular from a competition and data protection perspective.
  • Dr Nikita Divissenko is Assistant Professor at the International and European Law (IER) Department of the Utrecht School of Law. He coordinates the Master's Programme ‘Law and Technology in Europe and co-teaches the course ‘Law of Market Technologies’.
  • Dr Catalina Goanta, Associate Professor Private Law & Technology. Her research focuses on the private governance of Internet platforms, consumer forensics and native advertising on social media.
  • Dr Lisette Mustert is an Assistant Professor of Administrative Law at Utrecht ľ¹Ï¸£ÀûÓ°ÊÓ, and a member of the Utrecht Centre for Regulation and Enforcement in Europe (RENFORCE). Lisette conducts research at the intersection of EU and national administrative law.
  • Dr Domenico Rosani is a tenured assistant professor at the Willem Pompe Institute for Criminal Law and Criminology as well as a member of the Utrecht Centre for Regulation and Enforcement in Europe (Renforce). 
  • Dr Cristiana Teixeira Santos, Assistant Professor in Law and Technology. She holds a joint international Doctoral Degree in Law, Science and Technology (ľ¹Ï¸£ÀûÓ°ÊÓ of Bologna) and a Ph.D. Degree in Computer Science (ľ¹Ï¸£ÀûÓ°ÊÓ of Luxembourg). 
  • Mr. dr. Bram Duivenvoorde is associate professor at the Molengraaff Institute for Private Law at Utrecht ľ¹Ï¸£ÀûÓ°ÊÓ. His research focuses on advertising law and consumer law, with a specific focus on online marketing and consumer transactions. 
  • Mr. Ernst van Bemmelen-van Gent LLM graduated in law at the ľ¹Ï¸£ÀûÓ°ÊÓ of Amsterdam (The Netherlands). He received a cum-laude post-graduate degree (LL.M.) from the ľ¹Ï¸£ÀûÓ°ÊÓ of Dresden (Germany). As attorney-at-law (Dutch: advocaat) Ernst is admitted to the Bar in The Hague and owner of his own (part-time) law firm.
