Nasal epithelial cells as model for cystic fibrosis
Lisa Rodenburg
What was your PhD about?
"We developed protocols to use nasal epithelial cells as preclinical model for cystic fibrosis (CF). We aimed to predict drug efficacy in a personalized manner in patient-derived nasal organoids by using the forskolin-induced swelling assay. Furthermore, we performed a large drug screen to find drugs activating alternative (non-CFTR) chloride channels in the airway epithelium to restore the salt-water transport in nasal organoids from people with CF."
What is your fondest memory of your time at RMU?
"Working at the 鈥淏eekman-flex-office鈥 and the road to the 鈥淎lternatieve Elfstedentocht鈥 (ice skating event at the Weissensee) to raise money for CF research."
What are you going to do next?
"I am currently working as a clinical doctor at the clinical genetics department of the UMCU."
