Ethics and Biotechnology
We aim to ethically guide emerging (bio-)medical technologies into society.
Medicine and the biomedical sciences are increasingly influenced by the development and use of new (bio)technologies. Artificial intelligence (AI), neurotechnology and regenerative technologies constitute some prominent examples of our time. Such technologies have the potential to increase the possibilities for (bio)-medical research and personalised treatment, to improve diagnostics and may potentially cure or prevent the onset of (inheritable) diseases. Simultaneously, emerging biotechnologies are paired with ethical questions that include concerns about effectiveness and safety, but also with regard to the changing understanding of the human expertise, fairness, identity, and societal implications.
This group identifies these ethical and societal questions parallel to the technological development and provides guidance for translating these technologies in a responsible manner into society. Our work is highly interdisciplinary and collaborate with medical practitioners, philosophers, sociologists, patients and increasingly with artists.
