Equine Orthopaedics and Surgery
‘From horses, we may learn not only about the horse itself but also about animals in general, indeed about ourselves and about life as a whole’ – G.G. Simpson
In the line 'Regenerative Medicine' we focus on equine joint disease and more specifically on aspects of early degenerative changes of articular cartilage and follow-up of healing after (surgical) repair. We closely collaborate with the research group Biofabrication in Translational Regenerative Medicine and internationally with the Finnish research group 'Biophysics of Bone and Cartilage' in Kuopio, Finland, and with the National ľ¹Ï¸£ÀûÓ°ÊÓ of San Jose, Costa Rica. Within the line 'Bioveterinary Medicine' we perform research in the field of monitoring and rehabilitation of horses post-operative after colic surgery and innovative treatments of endodontal diseases in the horse. We also collaborates with the farriers of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine on the development of 3-D printed horseshoes.
