Strategic Human Resource Management

The Strategic Human Resource Management (SHRM) chair group focuses on two core themes: how do HRM and people management contribute to public service delivery? And what is the role of HRM in dealing with public issues?

SHRM & Public Service Delivery

The research within this theme focuses on the contribution of SHRM to the strategic goals of service-providing public and semi-public organisations with a public function, the motivation, well-being and performance of employees in public organisations, the role of managers in the implementation of HRM and issues and dilemmas regarding measuring performance in organisations in the public and semi-public sector, including government, healthcare and education.

HRM of public issues

The research within this theme focuses on the question of the role of HRM in public and private organisations in addressing issues of labour and labour participation. This core theme is divided into two sub-themes: (1) sustainable employability, well-being and management of demographic diversity (gender, age, ethnicity, neurodiversity); and (2) social and HRM policy of people with a distance to the labour market (including the long-term unemployed, unskilled people, people with disabilities, flexible employees) and self-employed workers.

Contextualisation

Contexualisation plays a central role in our research. We take into account the impact of social developments such as digitisation, AI and technologisation on (the HRM policies of) organisations. We study how organisations deal with this and encourage evidence-based management in practice, so that policy and decision-making are well substantiated. Our research focuses on sectors such as healthcare, education, government (central government and municipalities), defense and police in particular.
