Function

The Head of Department is expected to:

  • take responsibility for quality management of the Science curriculum at UCU, within the framework of the UCU Liberal Arts & Sciences program;
  • take co-responsibility with other Heads of Department for the curricular development of the College;
  • direct the Science department through consistent and strategically-minded Human Resources management and coaching;
  • recruit teachers (mostly from UU) for Science courses at UCU;
  • contribute to recruitment and admission of students.

Profile

UCU is looking forward to reactions from candidates who possess:

  • a senior position in a Science faculty, with a Professor鈥檚 rank or possessing qualifications equivalent to a Professor;
  • a broad overview of the Sciences;
  • excellent teaching qualities and are willing to teach at UCU beyond the appointment as Head;
  • a desire to further develop the Liberal Arts & Sciences concept;
  • an extensive professional network at Utrecht 木瓜福利影视, crucially in one or more of the Science faculties;
  • an international orientation;
  • good organizational and leadership skills;
  • a Basis Qualification in Education (BKOw), or Senior Qualification in Education (SKOw);
  • preferably a Senior Qualification in Research (SKOz).

What we offer

UCU offers a part time appointment of 0.4 FTE. This position is initially offered for four years. The salary is based on qualifications and experience, and supplemented with a holiday allowance of 8% and an end-of-year bonus of 8.3%. The UCU campus is conveniently located in a residential area of Utrecht between the downtown campus and the 鈥淯ithof鈥 campus of Utrecht 木瓜福利影视. 木瓜福利影视 College Utrecht (UCU) is the international (English language) Honors College of Utrecht 木瓜福利影视 in Liberal Arts and Sciences. It offers students an academic and residential setting in which foundations are laid for their academic and/or professional careers. Among the special characteristics of the College are its small classes and individual attention. It provides an environment that encourages intellectual exchange among students and professors in a friendly and informal atmosphere. UCU is a selective College of 740 students of a wide range of nationalities. Its three departments: Humanities, Science and Social Science, cover a wide range of fields. About 230 course equivalents are offered yearly by approximately 180 teachers. An important part of the UCU education is the tutorial system providing personal guidance to UCU students. The UCU faculty consists of heads of department, fellows of the college, (assistant, associate and full) professors, visiting professors (mostly from UU faculties) and teachers-tutors.
