The Space

Spanning over 600 m², Playground is a bright, flexible venue in the Vening Meinesz C building. Designed with students and staff, the space adapts easily to different activities, from workshops and presentations to exhibitions and panel discussions.

Getting here: Please enter through the main entrance of Vening Meinesz A. Playground is located in the left wing from the reception.

Playground features five areas: The foyer, event space, board room, workshop room, and build room.

When not booked, rooms remain open for student use. Below are details and inspiration for each space.

Foyer

A welcoming spot, Playground’s foyer is great for informal meetups, co-working, or relaxing.

  • Capacity: 50

  • Amenities: Microwaves, fridges (space permitting), a coffee machine, tableware, lockers, and coat hangers.

Note: Not reservable.

Event & Education Space

The heart of Playground, this vibrant red room is ideal for activities such as workshops, presentations, panel discussions, and exhibitions.

  • Capacity: 100

  • Amenities:

    • Up to 100 seats around the central stage (fixed tribune plus movable chairs and stools, which can be rearranged as 90 seats for group work with tables)

    • 5 flexible screens—3 on wheels, 2 on swivel arms (≈180°)

    • Curtains, whiteboards, and blackboards, which can also be used to partition the space

    • Audio equipment—2 handheld microphones, 1 clip-on, and 1 headset (additional microphones are not recommended as our speaker system is in-built)

    • Stage lighting with multiple presets

Note: The space can extend into the foyer for extra seating, and audio/presentation slides can be projected on an additional small screen.

Board Room

A professional blue room for hybrid meetings.

  • Capacity: 10

  • Amenities: Soundproof walls, two large presentation/conference screens, and whiteboards.

Note: Not reservable.

A bright yellow space for interactive sessions that get participants moving.

  • Capaticty: 20

  • Amenities:

    • Movable tables and flexible layouts for open-plan activities

    • Whiteboards & a static screen

    • Flexible seating including poufs and carpeted flooring.

Note: Clipboards are also available, so if you prefer to keep the tables aside and maintain an open plan, you’ll still have a sturdy surface for occasional writing or note-taking.

Build Room

The green room, your space for crafting or creating lo-fi prototypes.

  • Capacity: 18

  • Amenities:

    • Crafting materials like LEGO, paper, cardboard, fabric and paint*

    • Whiteboards & blackboards

    • High tables and stools

    • Storage spaces & a sink for cleanup

*Note: The provided materials are available for light use. For sessions that rely on specific crafting materials, we kindly ask that you bring your own.

Organising an Event?

Students and staff can reserve Playground free-of-charge. Priority is given to entrepreneurial events that meaningfully involve students. Check our Booking Checklist for criteria.
