The theme focuses on dedicated to expediting the transition to a circular society. The urgency of transitioning from a linear to a sustainable circular society cannot be overstated. Our current patterns of production and consumption exacerbate resource depletion, climate change, environmental pollution, and biodiversity loss, in addition to fostering geopolitical dependence and social inequality. Through interdisciplinary research, education, and impactful collaboration, the empowers both university students and professionals across industries, social organizations, and governments.

In the research programme, EWUU is working together to develop new AI techniques, enabling better and greater impact in the field of preventive care.

The  was established to support a diverse group of early-career and advanced academics with resources and skills to tackle today’s most pressing challenges in unusual .

CUCo offers subsidies to encourage unusual collaborations. The Spark Grant grant subsidy offers initial financial support. This allows a project team to be formed and the feasibility of an idea to be explored. This can lead to further development. In that case, the Unusual Collaboration Grant or another financing program can be applied for. The grants were set up to stimulate interdisciplinary collaborations aimed at social impact. Participation of at least three partners of the alliance is a condition for application.

EWUU offers new, innovative, didactic teaching methods such as . Students from various disciplines cooperate with each other and with social partners on concrete problems in the business community or in society. By contributing solutions to these problems, students make an impact during their study and acquire relevant skills with regard to cooperation, creativity, design thinking and entrepreneurship.

EWUU also makes it very easy for students from TU/e, WUR, UU and UMC Utrecht to take  at any partner institution within the alliance. The  platform facilitates this process. Administrative barriers are removed so that students can easily enroll themselves. Currently, there is a wide range of courses online, which is being expanded every year.

The institutions within the alliance develop a joint approach to . Combining their knowledge, enables the partners to meet the need for further training among professionals and their organisations. This also contributes to the social and commercial impact of the alliance.

The institutions and their students are jointly developing a new . Through this way of working, students learn the values, attitudes, skills and knowledge needed to solve problems. This is supported by a learning environment with the characteristics: personal, collaborative, interdisciplinary, flexible and adaptive.

The EWUU alliance’s institutions also conduct joint research on educational innovations.
