We study deformation and metamorphic processes in the Earth at all scales using tools ranging from electron microscopy to field geology.

The primary aim of our research group is to enhance the quality of life for patients and families with inherited cardiac diseases, especially cardiomyopathies.

We focus on biomaterial-based delivery for inhibition of degeneration and stimulation of regeneration of the intervertebral disc and articular cartilage.

We combine field data with experimental, modeling and theoretical approaches to elucidate biogeochemical cycles and mineral transformations.

The main research focus of the group is on chronic lower back pain due to intervertebral disc degeneration and joint pain due to osteoarthritis. These two major musculoskeletal disorders are commonly encountered in human, canine, and equine patients causing extensive disability and reduced quality of life.

Our aim is to develop, test, and implement novel therapeutic and diagnostic strategies to combat cancer by integrating fundamental and clinical research.

The general scope of my studies are to advance artificial joint reconstruction using optimal designs from 3D printing, biofabrication or implant coating tools, in order to improve implant fixation and prevent or treat revisions and infections with. The ultimate goals of my research are to replace bone in a regenerative process by natural bone and treat infections in a non-surgical or minimally invasive manner.
