About public engagement at Utrecht 木瓜福利影视
The world is facing major challenges that we can only tackle if we work together and share knowledge. Understanding and familiarity between science and society are essential in this regard. Society benefits when everyone can learn how scientific research works and how to recognise reliable information. That is why Utrecht 木瓜福利影视 takes its responsibility seriously to make research accessible, familiar and relevant to everyone.
At the Centre for Science and Culture, we organise events and activities that bring together academics, students and a broad and diverse audience. In doing so, we increase scientific literacy, stimulate critical thinking, create greater mutual understanding and trust, and strengthen public debate. Diverse audience
We believe equal opportunities, diversity and inclusion are important. That is why we develop programmes aimed at people who would otherwise not have access to research, for example through community centres, schools and libraries. Such as the succesful program A Word About Tomorrow.
As a researcher, I think it's really important to contribute to society with my research. This was a great opportunity for me to find out what sort of issues people really care about
We work together with societal partners to reach people who are more distant from academic research. In this way, we narrow the gap between science and everyday life and broaden the reach of research to underrepresented groups. This makes science even more relevant and better able to reach society.
Training and advice
At the Centre for Science and Culture, we offer workshops, training courses and personal coaching to help researchers and other colleagues develop and become skilled at involving a wide audience in their research.
I thought it was well worth the time investment. The training was very valuable, not only for that one performance, but also for future talks. It was really an opportunity to develop myself further.
We do this together with experienced academics (Public Engagement Fellows), communication and impact professionals, and in close collaboration with faculties and Strategic Themes. Read more about our training courses.
