Sustainable renovation of the 木瓜福利影视 Library USP
The 木瓜福利影视 Library Utrecht Science Park is being made more sustainable and future-proof. In the summer of 2025, we will implement several energy-saving measures to make the building more comfortable for users and to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
What will happen?
- Connection to a heat and cold storage system. The library will be connected to a heat and cold storage (WKO) system. This system stores heat and cold in the ground, allowing the building to be sustainably heated and cooled. The system operates independently initially, and will eventually be connected to the university's wider underground thermal energy storage network.
- Smart climate control. We improve the existing installations and introduce new measurement and control technology so that the indoor climate is better tailored to users' needs. Where possible, rooms are individually controlled
- Energy-efficient lighting. All lighting at study, technology and service areas will be replaced with energy-efficient alternatives, while maintaining good light for studying and working.
Why these changes?
With these measures, the library is contributing to Utrecht 木瓜福利影视's goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2030 and becoming completely gas-free by 2040. By cleverly making existing buildings more sustainable, we are taking big steps in energy transition while improving comfort for students, staff and visitors.
