Dismantling Martinus G. de Bruin Building
The Martinus G. de Bruin building is to be dismantled in 2025/2026, as the Veterinary Medicine faculty will have a new and sustainable faculty building. The new faculty building will replace a total of three buildings.
The Martinus G. de Bruin Building is a household name for Utrecht veterinary students. Since 1965, the building has been part of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at today's Utrecht Science Park. The building consists of a variety of building parts, with their own construction and renovation dates, character and use. The oldest part was built in 1965 and the last renovation was carried out in 2010.
Circular dismantling
Because of the recent (re)construction date of many building products, the building lends itself extremely well to reuse large parts. Therefore, we are exploring the feasibility of integrating existing materials and products into other construction projects of our own organization. To increase the chances of a match, we are simultaneously expanding our search by looking outside our organization.
Commissioned by Utrecht 木瓜福利影视, Repurpose conducted an opportunity scan for circular dismantling in which many materials were identified for high-quality reuse. Examples include complete construction parts, the hall, facade frames, trusses, sliding doors, facade materials and acoustic ceilings. Consideration was given to mass + environmental impact, condition, estimate disassembly and marketability. This building is being offered through '', Buildings Marketplace. Through this platform we want to get in touch with a consortium of an architect, developer and dismantler, who will design and develop a new building based on this building.
