Development Transition Building
Let's not start from scratch
Casco seeks (lab) coat. Where an empty lot is usually issued, there is now a concrete structure ready to be given a new life. On the site of the former Geosciences building, Utrecht 木瓜福利影视 wants to have a laboratory building with related offices developed by an external market party: The Transition Building. The university then wants to rent this building to temporarily house the IBB, IEB and (part of the) Bijvoet institute. As a result, the Hugo R. Kruyt Building can be redeveloped vacantly. After that, the building can be used as a 'multi-tenant' building for, among others, startups and scale-ups.
UU in search
As such, the university is seeking a market party (or combination of parties) to develop and operate a building with laboratories and related offices on this lot.
Facts and figures
The lot is located at the , in a central location between the faculty of Science and the faculty of Geosciences. The place where research is done on a more sustainable world.
The building should accommodate:
- 7,540 functional m虏 laboratories (app. 9.900 m虏 rentable floor space)
- 5,300 functional m虏 offices (app. 6.680 m虏 rentable floor space)
Selection phase
The 'selection phase' of the tender is scheduled to start in mid-March. Is your company interested to participate in this project? Please keep an eye out on and .
Indicative schedule
For now, UU assumes the following, indicative, schedule:
- Tender:
- Selection phase April - June 2024
- Dialogue / Award phase July - November 2024
- Completion: 2027
- Commissioning: January 2028
Fitting shell
Utrecht 木瓜福利影视 owns a large part of the Utrecht Science Park. Therefore, the university regularly issues lots on long lease to external parties. This makes it possible to build student houses, such as the (Dutch), and to create more space for start-ups, such as at . Where these were previously empty building plots, there is now a concrete skeleton. The shell of the former Geosciences building was found to still be in such good condition that UU considers the environmental impact of preserving it enormously valuable. Over 1.4 million kilos of CO2 will be saved by preserving the concrete skeleton. That offsets over 200 trips around the earth by car! Therefore, the university is looking for a development party (or development consortium) willing to take on the circular challenge of incorporating the shell into a new building.
