Construction of a thermal energy storage system Veterinary Medicine
Utrecht 木瓜福利影视 is connecting more and more buildings to a thermal energy storage system (WKO). A WKO installation will be installed in the eastern part of the Utrecht Science Park in the second half of 2024. This part of the installation will connect the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine buildings to this sustainable energy source.
Utrecht 木瓜福利影视 is connecting more and more buildings to a heat and cold storage system (WKO), a system that cools and heats the connected buildings with water from constructed basins underground. The system is 100% sustainable. Several buildings are already connected to the CHP system and more are in the pipeline. By connecting more and more buildings to this underground network, the university is taking big steps towards becoming CO2-neutral by 2030. Find out more about how an WKO works and what it is here.
Excavation work on and around Yalelaan
The pipework for the WKO is being laid under Yalelaan. Only there appears to be room for the pipeline. In addition, at this location, it does not impact the trees on either side of Yalelaan. This does mean that this road will have to be opened in parts. Work will start in front of the H. Jacob building and the Jeannette Donker-Voet building and then continue in several phases up to the Tolakker. The contractor will dig part of a deep trench each time. Pipes are laid in the trench. Then they will pour it back in and start the next phase.
Ambitions
Utrecht 木瓜福利影视 wants to make a maximum contribution to solving the climate problem and aims to be CO2 neutral by 2030. By reducing its own energy consumption, optimal use of fossil fuels and the transition to a 100% sustainable energy supply, the university can achieve the energy targets within its sustainability ambition. The construction of an ATES system is part of Utrecht 木瓜福利影视's Energy Strategy.
Planning of WKO Veterinary Medicine
- Work will start in August 2024 and is expected to be completed by December.
- The work will be carried out in phases. Staff, students and suppliers will receive an explanation of the work and the expected disruption for each phase. Work will take place in the buildings and public spaces.
- Throughout the implementation period, signs will indicate the accessibility of the buildings and car parks.
- The safety of all staff, students and visitors is a priority. Please follow the instructions of the work crews and respect the cordons.
- Haitjema will carry out the laying of the pipes.
