Themed dinners

The regional board of alumni of Utrecht 木瓜福利影视 in The Hague and surroundings regularly organizes themed dinners. A three-course dinner at Brasserie Berlage provides the backdrop for a lecture by an inspiring guest speaker and a lively discussion.

January 23 - Prof. Dr. Chris Backes
Theme: Nitrogen policy. Chris Backes works in the field of international, European, and Dutch environmental law, with a particular focus on environmental law (waste law, air quality, and other topics) and nature conservation law. He conducts a great deal of comparative legal research and is interested in how the law can promote the transition to sustainable management of the environment.
November 21 - Prof. Maarten Goos
Theme: Working in the future. Automation, robotization, digitization, artificial intelligence, big data: what challenges and opportunities are there for employers and employees?
May 16 - Dr. Els Kloek
Theme: 1001 women and 100 years of women's suffrage. Based on her reference work 1001 women, Els Kloek shows the doors of political life slowly opened for women and how women went to work in a world that had been a male domain since time immemorial.
March 28 - Hanneke van Eijken
Theme: Brexit: what does this mean for EU and UK citizens? During this themed dinner Hanneke van Eijken discussed the latest developments in this process. Her lecture focused in particular on the position of EU and British citizens.
January 17 - Prof. Gert Jan Kramer and Marte Gerritsen MSc
Theme: The energy transition: between global scale and neighborhood approach. The world is in the midst of an energy transition. The intertwining of the technical and social aspects of this transition are central to this duo lecture.
October 18 - Cathelijne Broers, director of De Nieuwe Kerk and the Hermitage Amsterdam, Alumnus of the Year 2017
Theme: Museum Dinner, on cultural entrepreneurship: innovative business models, marketing, and special partnerships and sponsorships finance the exhibitions and day-to-day operations of two historic buildings.
May 17 - Dr. Katell Lav茅ant, associate professor in the Department of French Language and Culture, and Jaap van Hellenberg Hubar, chair of the production team of Opera Thijl, the anniversary opera of the Utrecht Student Concert.
Theme: Who is Thijl Uilenspiegel? Lav茅ant tells us everything about the cheerful and popular culture of Thijl's time, while Van Hellenberg Hubar gives us a behind-the-scenes look at a special opera production.
March 22 - Erry Stoov茅, senior official and honorary president of the ILO-affiliated International Social Security Association in Geneva.
Theme: How sustainable is our welfare state? Stoov茅 has contributed to the development and implementation of the welfare state for forty years and shares his experiences and dilemmas.
January 25 - Dr. Joyce Sylvester, Deputy National Ombudsman and, among other things, chair of the Giro 555 (SHO) Board, chair of the Supervisory Board of Oude Muziek Utrecht, ambassador for the Netherlands-Suriname Sustainable Development Foundation (d'ONS).
Theme: Are citizens the focus? Sylvester explains how the National Ombudsman safeguards the citizen's perspective in everything the government does.
November 23 - Prof. Hans Clevers, scientist in the field of stem cell research affiliated with UMC Utrecht, scientific director of the Princess Maxima Center for Pediatric Oncology, and leader of a research group at the Hubrecht Institute of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences
Theme: Diner des Organo茂des 鈥 Stem Cells: Dr. Jekyll or Mr. Hyde? Hans Clevers on the different sides of stem cells
June 8 - Dr. Martijn Burger, scientific director of the Erasmus Happiness Economics Research Organization and associate professor at the Applied Economics capacity group at Erasmus 木瓜福利影视 Rotterdam.
Theme: Does money make you happy?
March 30 - Antoine Steenkamer LLM, founder of Spelendergrijs, Student Award 2016 for exceptional social or administrative achievements.
Theme: Old learned, young done. With this idea in mind, UU alumnus Spelendergrijs started an initiative in which students organize activities for elderly people in nursing homes.
January 26 - Prof. Jos茅 van Dijck, president of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW).
Theme: The KNAW as the voice and conscience of science
November 24 - Maurice Unck, acting Director of Commerce & Development at NS.
Theme: Dutch Railways speak... Maurice Unck on the exciting journey NS is making. Where the Netherlands grows, the railways grow with it, and vice versa. Where does NS stand now, and what choices is the company making for the future?
September 22 - Piet Hoekstra, Dean of the Faculty of Geosciences at Utrecht 木瓜福利影视 and Professor of Physical Geography.
Theme: Sustainable development of delta regions
May 19 - Henk Kummeling, professor of constitutional law and comparative constitutional law at the Institute for Constitutional and Administrative Law at Utrecht 木瓜福利影视. September 10 - Bert Weckhuysen is a faculty professor at Utrecht 木瓜福利影视. His research involves the spectroscopic characterization of the functioning of catalyst materials while they are active.
