5 questions for President of the Executive Board Anton Pijpers
Why is Utrecht 木瓜福利影视 proud of all its alumni? And what is it like to celebrate a lustrum in times of corona? Chairman of the Executive Board Anton Pijpers is happy to tell you in "5 questions to Anton Pijpers"!
Online lecture tour with Rutger Bregman
New Alumnus of the Year Rutger Bregman has quickly become a world-renowned intellectual influencer. On Thursday evening, March 25, from 8pm to 9pm30 (through this link), presenter Sofie van den Enk will talk to him during an online lecture tour about his period in Utrecht, his ideas, ideals and sources of inspiration. How can students make a difference in helping shape the future? What is the role of science? One of the guests is historian Prof. Beatrice de Graaf, one of the teachers who inspired him during his student days.

Lustrum: creating tomorrow together
Friday, March 26, we will celebrate our 385th Dies Natalis. This year's Dies is dedicated to the kick-off of the joint 77th lustrum with UMC Utrecht, under the title: creating tomorrow together. We have been working together for a better world for 385 years. During this lustrum, the university invites students, staff, alumni and residents of the city of Utrecht to think about the future together. From 3pm you are cordially invited to attend the online celebration of our 385th anniversary. The Dies speech "Creating a healthy living environment together" will be held by Prof. Roel Vermeulen. After the Dies speech, the prizes for the Teacher of the Year and the Teacher Talent of the Year will be awarded. Dekoor Close Harmony provides the musical intermezzo. It is not necessary to register in advance.
Contribute to equal opportunities to study in Utrecht
Our university wants equal opportunities for everyone who studies or wants to study in Utrecht. Students increasingly need financial help, since support from the government or parents is not self-evident for everyone. Universities cannot provide grants from the government's grant for education. Therefore, the Utrecht 木瓜福利影视 Fund wants to draw extra attention to study grants during this anniversary year. Right now the support of alumni is indispensable. Chairman of the Board Anton Pijpers: 鈥淭he 木瓜福利影视 Fund can help students with a full grant, but many students have been helped with a small contribution. The emergency fund that the Utrecht 木瓜福利影视 Fund set up for students who get into trouble due to corona is a good example of this. They have already helped many students with mostly small donations. We are very proud of our alumni who make this possible. 鈥

Mathematical models help set up polling stations in times of corona
Computer scientist and alumnus Roland Geraerts focuses his research on the simulation of crowds in games and virtual worlds. His crowd simulation software provided, among other things, insight into the design of the polling stations during the Dutch elections. How do people use the public space in polling stations, and what happens if, for example, everyone has to disinfect their hands before entering? The software calculated how much time and space it took to allow us all to vote safely.
Curious what the computer simulations have meant for the design of the polling station where you cast your vote last week? Read the article here.
