Alumni newsletter - February 2024
2024 has started and with it, Utrecht's icon has become more visible again: the top of our Dom Tower is out of scaffolding. Does it seem too much to climb all those stairs? Are you having trouble making those New Year's resolutions come true? At Sportcentre Olympos you can exercise ! And if you are a Friend of the Utrecht ľ¹Ï¸£ÀûÓ°ÊÓ Fund, you can now get an annual Olympos membership card at an extra low price. Moreover, your Friends' contribution helps UU-students. Would you like to become Friends?

Utrecht Science Park ('the Uithof') no. 1 Top location non-profit
In the category 'non-profit facilities' the Utrecht Science Park scores the leading position in an annual survey of top locations. Not only our university and the UMC Utrecht can be found on the former Uithof, a wide variety of knowledge institutions and companies work intensively together: "this unique knowledge concentration has great added value."
Pay it Forward
Do you ever think about doing something for students who could use support? Or perhaps you'd like to help make important research possible? We are proud to present the four projects of our Pay it Forward 2024 campaign: contribute to scholarships, donate to climate change or chronic pain research, or give to biodiversity. Your gift makes a difference.
International Women's Day
Utrecht ľ¹Ï¸£ÀûÓ°ÊÓ celebrates International Women's Day on March 8 together with students, staff and alumni. We will dive deeper into the world of ChatGPT and automated writing tools and how they enter or exclude our daily lives. As algorithms continue to influence various aspects of our lives, there is widespread concern about the potential biases they can introduce, especially against women and minorities.
The ROSANNA Fund for Women, which awards scholarships to talented women, is also providing part of the program. Prof. Dr. Sarah Bracke explores the intersection of gender, right-wing extremism and population theories. The day will conclude with a lecture by Prof. Dr. Rosi Braidotti: The Politics of Music: Bella Ciao.

Sausage catastrophe
Experiments and simulations by researchers from Utrecht ľ¹Ï¸£ÀûÓ°ÊÓ among others, provide deeper insights into the mathematical phenomenon known as the 'sausage catastrophe'.
