Sharing Days 2025

Spread throughout downtown Utrecht on June 12 and 13, you can attend lectures, follow workshops and participate in activities such as yoga, improvisational theater and a poetry tour through the city center. On Friday evening you can also enjoy an extensive Italian buffet in the Faculty Club. We will highlight a few special lectures - you can find the full program on our website!

Towards a COâ‚‚-neutral UU

Our university aims for CO₂-neutrality and Zero Waste by 2030 but lacks a sustainability plan for faculties, education, and labs. Green Teams, mostly made up of PhD students, teachers, technicians, and postdocs, have emerged to promote sustainability in education and research. In this session, we’ll share achievements, ongoing projects, and ways you can help create a more sustainable work environment.

Since the new US administration took office, EU digital regulations like the DSA, Data Act, and AI Act have sparked concerns about compliance costs and potential overregulation, especially for big tech companies. While some of these laws may have a smaller impact than expected, in this talk Dr. Catalina Goanta will explore how the evolving EU-US relationship could affect DSA enforcement and reshape the social media landscape.

At UU's 389th Dies Natalis, Hiske Arts received the honorary title Alumnus of the Year. As campaign leader of Fossil-Free NL, she fights against greenwashing and challenges the financial systems that cause climate distress.

Breakthrough Prize in Fundamental Physics

Nobel laureate and UU emeritus professor Gerard 't Hooft has won the Breakthrough Prize in Fundamental Physics for his pioneering work on the standard model of particle physics. This prize is known as the "Oscar of science".
