AI student ambassadors at the campus with a survey among first-year students

Vijf studenten poseren in het Utrecht Science Park met witte t-shirts waarop slogans over AI zijn afgedrukt.

On the first day of the new academic year, five AI student ambassadors walked around Utrecht Science Park to spread a message: use AI responsibly. The slogans on their T-shirts, such as 鈥淵ou think, AI generates鈥 and 鈥淢achines generate, minds evaluate鈥, emphasise the importance of human autonomy in our interaction with AI tools.

Survey

In addition to spreading this message, the aim of this campaign was to recruit first-year UU students to complete a questionnaire. This questionnaire surveyed the extent to which first-year students are concerned with the rise of AI technology and whether this may have played a role in their choice of study programme. They were also asked how important they consider it to be that their future study programme focuses on learning about AI and learning to work with AI tools. This survey will be repeated in the coming years to identify possible trends. The main goal is to emphasise the responsible use of AI.

Initial results

The initial results show that more than 80 percent of the 118 respondents have not yet considered whether or not AI will be included in the curriculum of their future studies. Only a few have changed their choice of study programme because of the rise of AI. The majority of respondents indicate that they consider it important to be able to use safe AI tools during their studies.

Survey still open

Only a few programmes have been approached until now. In other study programmes, the emergence of AI may have played a greater role. All first-year students can therefore also .

In addition, the AI student ambassadors will be present in the USP and in the city center more often. If you would like to contribute to this as a student, please sign up as a student ambassador via the website.
