Academic staff

Core lecturers of our programme include: 

  • Prof Ton van den Brink, Professor as well as Jean Monnet professor of EU legislative studies and a member of the board of Utrecht Centre of Shared Regulation and Enforcement in Europe (RENFORCE). He leads the LLM programme in EU law and chairs the departmental committee for LL.M. programs. His research focuses on EU legislative issues, such as EU Better lawmaking policies, national discretion in EU legislation, the role of parliaments in legislation in specific areas of EU law, such as the Economic and Monetary Union (EMU).
  • Prof Hanneke van Eijken, Professor by Special Appointment on Rule of Law and Democracy (Alex Brenninkmeijer Wisselleerstoel). She examines the rule of law and democratic processes from a citizens' perspective. Her fields of expertise are European citizenship, fundamental rights and free movement rights.
  • Prof Linda Senden, Professor of European Law. She is a well-known expert on the institutional and constitutional dimension of EU law, with a specific interest in regulatory and enforcement aspects of the European integration process, in its interaction with the national legal orders. She advises the EU Commission on the issues of gender equality in the EU.
  • Prof Sybe de Vries, Professor European Economic Law. His research focuses on EU Single Market law and the interconnection between EU free movement law and fundamental rights.
  • Dr Baskaran Balasingham, Assistant Professor in European Competition Law. His areas of expertise include WTO law and European Union law. His main research focus is on competition law and digitalisation. 
  • Dr Urszula Jaremba, Associate Professor of European law. In her research she focusses on the application of EU law in Member States of the EU, judicial protection in the EU and the EU internal market.
  • Dr Ma艂gorzata Kozak, Assistant Professore of European Competition Law. She specializes in European Union law and competition law including private and public enforcement, compliance systems and vertical restraints. 
  • Dr  Nathan Meershoek, Assistant Professor in European Law. In his research, he addresses the legal tensions between EU public procurement law and the EU鈥檚 aim of establishing a Eu defence policy.
  • Dr Salvatore Nicolosi, Associate Professor in European and International law. His research , mainly focuses on EU migration law and combines expertise in the domains of European law, international human rights law and international refugee law, with particular attention to the development of the Common European Asylum System. He also coordinate the LLM programme in European Law.
  • Dr Pauline Phoa, Assistant Professor in EU law. Her research mainly focuses on sustainability in the EU
  • Dr Miroslava (Mira) Scholten, Assistant Professor European law at Utrecht 木瓜福利影视. In her research, she focuses on EU institutional and comparative constitutional and administrative law, including EU agencies, accountability and the new trend of enhancing EU direct enforcement power.
  • Dr Thomas Verellen, Assistant Professor in European Union and International Lawand Research Fellow at the Institute for European Law, KU Leuven. He is an expert in EU and comparative foreign relations law and has a particular interest in the impact of geopolitical change on the governance of EU trade and investment policy.
