What is Extended Reality?
XR is an umbrella term that refers to immersive technologies that combine the physical and digital worlds, creating interactive experiences. XR encompasses various technological concepts such as Virtual Reality (VR), Augmented Reality (AR) and Mixed Reality (MR). These are rapidly developing technologies that are already being applied in various fields, including education.
Virtual Reality (VR)
In VR, a user finds themselves in a virtual environment with scenes and objects that appear real. The user is completely isolated from reality. This gives the user the feeling that they are 鈥渞eally鈥 in a different place, without having to leave their home. VR makes it possible to simulate a 3D world in which a virtual reality can be experienced.
Augmented Reality (AR)
With AR, the user sees the real world with an extra layer of information superimposed on it. The user is in the real world. Visual, auditory or other sensory stimuli are digitally added to reality to provide the user with more information. AR makes it possible to enrich reality with virtual elements.
Mixed Reality (MR)
MR is a combination of VR and AR. The user is in the real world in which virtual elements are projected. With MR, users can also interact with the virtual elements.
