Edubadges
Edubadges are digital certificates that allow students or employees to prove that they have acquired certain knowledge or skills. Edubadges are issued digitally via 's secure and reliable platform.
Edubadges are digital certificates that show that you have acquired certain knowledge or skills. Students or other learners can obtain an edubadge after following (partial) education at UU, as proof that they have gained specific knowledge or skills from it.
Edubadges can be shared by the recipient online, for example on LinkedIn or via another platform. Behind a badge image is non-copyable and non-customisable information about the education taken and what the recipient had to do to obtain the badge. This allows someone else to verify the content of the badge, which increases its reliability.
Edubadges are only issued digitally within a secure and reliable platform provided by .
In this platform, teachers or, for example, workshop leaders can create and issue edubadges. Students and other learners can receive their edubadges via this platform and share them online from there in places where it may be of interest to them.
Connection to the job market
With edubadges, students can make their knowledge and skills visible and 鈥減ortable鈥. For example, students who have followed extracurricular activities and have been awarded an edu badge can easily show their knowledge and skills to future employers. Also, edubadges allow students to share their knowledge and skills with the outside world already during their studies.
Lifelong development
Graduates continue to develop continuously; working people want to maintain or further expand their knowledge and skills and also keep this visible. Edubadges can facilitate this by being linked to a new cross-institutional identity, eduID, which remains available after graduation and lasts a lifetime. This makes it possible to continue to visibly share edubadges even after graduation.
The CAT provides support in setting up the process for edubadges, targeting the following three audiences:
- Students: Initial education (focus: extra-curricular)
- Teachers: Teacher development activities
- Professionals: Education in the context of Lifelong Learning
If you want to link edubadges to your teaching, an intake interview will take place first. During this interview, we check whether the application meets the guidelines specifically set by UU. This is how we monitor the value of edubadges from UU.
Edubadges can be issued as microcredentials. Microcredentials are issued by universities and colleges for short units of study of 1-30 EC. They are nationally recognised digital certificates that show that you have successfully completed a course. A microcredential adds an extra seal of quality to education, both inside and outside the educational institution where you took the course.
The microcredential is becoming increasingly important for continuing education in the Netherlands, but also within Europe. Within Utrecht 木瓜福利影视, works with microcredentials in a number of courses. This is part of the .
The difference between edubadges and microcredentials is that microcredentials have an independently recognised value. Edubadges are mainly awarded within UU for extra curricular activities and non-formal education.
