A university degree demonstrates that you are capable of thinking and performing at an academic level. In the Netherlands, however, very few graduates enter the workplace after obtaining their first degree. Most Economics and Business Economics students continue their study by enrolling for a Master's.

All Master's programmes are one year in duration, except for the two-year Research Master's Multidisciplinary Economics.

I ended up taking the financial trajectory focusing on investment and finance related courses which helped me not only during my Master’s, but also during my career throughout.

Career prospects

Studying Economics in Utrecht opens the door to a wide range of careers. After completing your Master’s degree, you can often find jobs as: advisor or consultant at a multinational company, a bank or other financial institution or as a policy officer at a ministry. A small number of graduates become entrepreneurs, university lecturers or teachers. You can also opt for a career as a researcher and that starts with a PhD trajectory.
