Prof. dr. Peter Lugtig

Peter Lugtig (1983) studied political science at the 木瓜福利影视 of Amsterdam, and completed a Ph.D. in survey methodology at Utrecht 木瓜福利影视 in 2012.

He works as professor in data quality at the section 'Methods and Statistics' at Utrecht 木瓜福利影视, where he specializes in  improving the design and analysis of data quality in social scientific research. This includes the following themes:

* Data quality: what does data quality mean? How can we assess whether a dataset is 'fit for purpose', and most importantly, how can we assess the quality of data?

* Survey Methodology: in particular methods to collect data using a combination of different survey modes. This includes sampling, fieldwork design preventing and correcting nonresponse, questionnaire design for multiple modes, and cross-national or comparative surveys.

* Inference using a mix of survey data and big data, in particular how mobile phone sensor data, like GPS and accelerometer data can be inferred to improve our understanding of human behavior. Topics are data fusion of survey and sensor data, nonresponse patterns in sensor data, measurement quality, and how to improve these.

* Modeling data errors: As there often is just one data source available to study a phenomenon, errors can rarely be observed directly.  Statistical models are used to disentangle all kinds of survey errors, and compare the size of each error source.

* Longitudinal data analysis. Modeling longitudinal survey data, mainly using Structural Equation Models (SEM).

Peter Lugtig currently serves as the head of the section Methodology and Statistics.
