As an associate professor, I teach undergraduate courses at Liberal Arts and Sciences (LAS), focusing on teaching interdisciplinary collaboration and research. I am also involved in the Master Medical Humanities, in which the discipline in which I was educated myself (Medicine) meets the discipline(s) in which I am currently working (Humanities). I am also involved in the development of interdisciplinary and interprofessional education in the UMC Utrecht and the Bachelor ‘Zorg, Gezondheid en Samenleving’.
I conduct research on interdisciplinarity, focusing on interdisciplinary education in particular. My interest is in the learning outcomes and competences students can achieve in interdisciplinary education. These include learning outcomes and/or the development of competences such as integration, (interdisciplinary) identity and social-interactive skills. I also conduct research into how we as teachers can best design education to achieve the aforementioned learning outcomes and competences. In doing so, I develop concrete tools and teacher professionalisation activities to translate the research findings into practice. In this way, impact can be generated at the university and beyond.
As a medical graduate, I also like to stay involved in (educational) developments in the medical sector.
