Jasper van Kempen is Professor of Transdisciplinary Water Law at the Faculty of Law, Economics and Governance at Utrecht ľ¹Ï¸£ÀûÓ°ÊÓ. In this role, he focuses on the interaction between science and the practice of water management, complementing the legal and administrative perspective with a broad, interdisciplinary outlook.

This special chair was established in November 2024 through the Schilthuisfonds Foundation, which promotes the scientific and practical study of water law and water history. Water management remains of existential importance in the Netherlands. Not only technology, but also governance plays a crucial role. Society faces numerous necessary transitions, partly due to climate change — challenges in the living environment that can only be addressed through a strong connection between practice and science. Both in education and research, Utrecht ľ¹Ï¸£ÀûÓ°ÊÓ and the Schilthuisfonds Foundation aim to contribute to this effort.

Van Kempen combines this chair with his position at the Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management.
