Annemarie Kalis is professor of Philosophy of Mind and Cognition, and part of the group Theoretical Philosophy. Her areas of expertise are philosophy of psychology (in particular the themes agency, normativity and reasoning), action theory and philosophy of mind. In 2009 she defended her dissertation on the phenomenon of akrasia, or weakness of will. In 2014 she obtained a NWO-VENI grant for a research project on the metaphysics of psychological attitudes, and from 2019-2024 she coordinated a NWO-VIDI project on the question how to understand our capacity for self-control. She defends a neo-Wittgensteinian approach to the mind and has written about Gilbert Ryle's ideas on perception and reasoning.
Since september 2025, Annemarie is Head of the Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies.
