Theoretical Biology and Bioinformatics

Biological systems are complex systems composed of many spatially distributed building blocks. Understanding the evolution, dynamics and emergent behavior of complex biological systems requires a systems biology approach, involving quantitative biology, mathematical modelling, computer simulation and bioinformatics.

      Tackling a plant disease that increasingly threatens lettuce production has moved a major step closer, thanks to a 1.5 million euro funding for a new research project. Biologist Michael Seidl will lead the project, in collaboration other scientists and plant breeding companies.
