High Performance and Cloud computing
Is your code running too slow on your laptop? Or are you unable to process large datasets? Do you need a professional sparring partner to discuss high-end computing solutions for your research project? Reach out to the Research Engineering team for consultancy on High Performance Computing (HPC) and cloud solutions.
What is HPC?
High Performance Computing (HPC) refers to the practice of aggregating computing power in a way that delivers much higher performance than one could get out of a typical desktop computer or workstation in order to solve large problems. For UU researchers, there are many platforms available that provide increased computing power, including supercomputers, cloud providers and VRE services. These platforms vary in terms of user friendliness, compute power, software availability and security. They are available within UU, the national SURF facilities or commercial providers. Based on our user experience of the platforms, we can help you define requirements for the best compute solutions and suggest routes to obtain access and funding.
In this article you can read how High Performance Computing helped PhD Mariana Sim玫es during her research. Or listen to this podcast (only in Dutch) about a former Utrecht 木瓜福利影视 student who has transcribed 100,000 podcasts using the supercomputer Snellius. Listen via this link:
What we can do for you:
- Consultancy and support on choosing a suitable computing platform
- Getting access to computing platforms
- Consultancy and support when applying for funding
- Giving support when getting started with computing platforms
- Adapting your code and data for use on computing platforms
For whom?

SURFsara credits
We provide a limited number of free credits (up to 10.000) for the national HPC and Cloud systems at SURFsara (Snellius and Research Cloud). These credits are meant for project start-ups, testing purposes and small research projects. To apply for credits, book an intake meeting below.
HPC Spring School
Are you ready to boost your skills in scientific computation, parallel programming, and deep learning? Then please take part in the HPC Spring School at Utrecht 木瓜福利影视! During this Spring School, experts from the UU and SURF offer a wide range of sessions spread over eight days. The HPC Spring School will take place from Monday 12 May till Thursday 22 May at Utrecht 木瓜福利影视. .
