Diaspora Heritage in Motion
The heritage of postcolonial communities has received little recognition within the dominant heritage domain in the Netherlands. Diaspora Heritage in Motion seeks to change this by rethinking heritage practices in close collaboration with heritage communities from postcolonial backgrounds, researchers, and cultural institutions.
The project focuses on the heritage treasures of Hindustani-Surinamese, Javanese-Surinamese, and Chinese-Indonesian communities.
Through community gatherings, seminars with international speakers, and collaborations with museums and publishers, we critically engage with dominant frameworks of representation, ownership, and authority.
Led by Dr. Jaswina Elahi (Utrecht 木瓜福利影视) and supported by the Dutch Cultural Heritage Agency (Faro funding scheme), the project aims not only to transform heritage frameworks, but also to build lasting relationships between communities, researchers, and institutions鈥攂ased on equity, trust, and co-created knowledge鈥攁nd thereby sustainably increase representativeness within the Dutch heritage field.
