Why tour LPL?

As a prototyping facility with an educational focus, there are two main reasons to tour LPL, either we can inform you on how LPL can be directly useful to you, your work group and students or it can be a source of inspiration.

Informing
LPL is useful for researchers who want to produce or modify their own hardware. As a research head or enthusiastic prototyper you can bring along your colleagues to show them our capabilities. We can tailor the examples of projects and workshops we use to make it relevant it to them.

Often, making your own modifications to hardware can be quicker and cheaper then waiting for parts to be delivered. Additionally, we believe that teaching the DIY mentality can give researchers a better understanding of how their equipment works to aid with troubleshooting and give them a greater sense of agency in trying to implement potential improvements to protocols. Touring LPL could be a step in developing this tinkering mindset.

Inspiring
LPL can be a of inspiration for external groups to see how the science faculty of Utrecht 木瓜福利影视 tries to innovate education. We have hosted STEM clubs, international delegations and even the board of directors of other educational institutions. In certain cases, we can consider a small activity for participants of the tour to help them see the value of the lab. Within the UU this might also be interesting for PhD organizers who want to show new researchers the range of available facilities.

How to tour LPL?

Start by simply messaging our general email: LPL@uu.nl. State the organization you represent and how many participants you would like to join. You can also state any other wishes: such as a particular focus or specific dates. In general we recommend 20 minutes to tour the Lab so you should be able to fit it into other activities such as integrating the tour into your monthly lab meeting. There is no associated cost.
