From exhausted to energized; the dynamics of burn-out

Burnout leads to extreme fatigue and impairs emotional and cognitive functioning. Severely burned-out individuals often withdraw mentally from work and face anxiety, depression, and absence. Research has mostly focused on mild cases, overlooking those with 鈥渃linical burnout鈥 who cannot work. Furthermore, not much attention has been given to the self-regulation processes that may underly the development of burnout. This project addresses that gap by comparing clinical and sub-clinical cases, with a strong focus on self- and emotion regulation. Using interviews, surveys, and a longitudinal diary study, we aim to identify key factors influencing burnout. The research offers crucial scientific insights and practical implications for improving interventions that support recovery and well-being in individuals and organizations alike.
