September marks the start of the Food Year: each month, one dish will be placed in the spotlight. On this page, you’ll find a monthly in-depth article developed from a scientific or academic perspective. Each story will dive deeper into the featured menu exploring its ingredients, cultural background, seasonal aspects, or offering broader reflections on the future of food.
The Food Year was launched during Food Week (19–23 May 2025), a collaboration between Future Food Utrecht the Faculty Club and ,. The week offered a rich program including a delicious asparagus-themed menu, a visit to an asparagus farm, and a lively Future Food Drinks event with live music.
