Assessment forms SEC research project
On this page, meant for supervisors and second assessors of SEC master thesis projects, you can find the forms to submit your assessment, as well as instructions how to do that. You can find an outline of the full procedure here.
Single-point rubrics
All parts of the assessed using single-point rubrics. These rubrics take the shape of a number of aspects that can each be assessed as being on target, or below or above expectations. The expectations are formulated in such a way that they will lead to a grade of 7. If a student meets these expectations, no comment is necessary. If the students performed above or below expectation, this is commented in the form in the column on the right or left of the form. An overall comment can also be added at the bottom. The grade is a holistic grade, where of course one will expect more comments in the 鈥渁bove expectation鈥 column for grades higher than 7 and more comments in the 鈥渂elow expectation鈥 column for lower than 7. However, there is no mathematical formula to compute grades, they represent an overall assessment.
Assessing the presentation
The presentation is usually assessed by one of the coordinators of the RP30 project, advised by the first supervisor, when present at the presentation. This form (Section 2) can be downloaded here. The assessor of the presentation fills in the Single point rubric on this form and uploads it to Osiris Case as a Word file. This will allow the first supervisor to copy/paste this file into the final assessment form.
Assessing the thesis by first and second assessor/supervisor
Before the student submits the thesis, the first supervisor should discuss a final draft with the student. In doing so, please consult the requirements for the thesis, ensuring the formal criteria are met.
Once the student submits their thesis, the first supervisor receives a request to check the plagiarism check that is automatically performed by Osiris Case. When no problems are found, both first and second supervisor need to assess the thesis. They do this by each filling in a copy of Section 3 of the form, that can be downloaded here. When asked to do so by Osiris Case, fill in the rubric and grade on the form and upload the form as a Word file. Again, this will allow the first supervisor to copy/paste elements of the assessment into the final assessment form.
Filling in the final assessment form
Once presentation and thesis have been assessed by the coordinator and first and second assessor, the first supervisor of the student needs to fill in the complete assessment form. The template for this form can be downloaded here. After downloading this form, take the following steps:
- Download the assessments for presentation, as well as first and second supervisor from Osiris Case (Zaak) for this student.
- Fill in Section 1 of the assessment form with your assessment of the research project process. If needed consult with other parties involved in the project, e.g. an external advisor.
- Copy the assesment form for the presentation as Section 2 in the indicated place.
- Check your assesment and that of the second supervisor for the thesis.
- If the assessments are similar (difference less than a point and no disagreement on pass or fail) proceed with filling in Section 3, where you take the mean of the two grades given by you and the second assessor, and use both texts to create informative feedback for the student.
- If you and the second assessor do not agree on the grade, discuss with the second assessor and try to reach an agreement. Fill in the agreed grades and comments in Section 3.
- If no agreement can be reached, contact the coordinator of RP30. A third assessment will be required.
- Double click on the final grade table on the first page of the form. This will open an Excel sheet where you can fill in the grades for process, presentation and theses. Double check that all is correct and close the Excel. The final grade will be computed.
- Save the form as a PDF and upload to Osiris Case on the appropriate form.
- Now also enter the final grade for this student in Osiris Docent.
