Research in the Animal Behaviour and Cognition group involves three research lines, concerning animal group living, animal social cognition, and animal welfare. Our research focusses mainly on primates, although we also extensively study birds and other animals.
Female and male primates often form close bonds, but not purely out of affection. Close relationships usually evolve when there is a clear benefit for both parties, with protection and reproductive control playing key roles.
