Workshops

DNA research for customized therapy
Researchers study DNA every day to develop new and better treatments for patients, and within the teaching at Biomedical Sciences, the word daily comes up, but what does DNA actually look like? Find out by looking at your own DNA! During this short workshop, you will learn how to isolate your own DNA from your cheek mucosa and how your genes play a role in health and disease.
Robin C. Bos, MSc
Robin works as an educational innovator and outreach coordinator in the Biomedical Sciences program. Who has a background in biomedical sciences and science communication and a specific interest in accessible and inclusive education/research. Robin's mission is to make science accessible to all and contribute to creating an open and safe (learning) climate.
What nutrition really does to you - personalized insights from glucose data
How does your body really respond to nutrition? In this interactive workshop, we dive into real glucose curves of users of Clear.bio - an innovative intervention that helps people reverse type 2 diabetes through personalized nutrition. You'll learn how differently people respond to seemingly 鈥渉ealthy鈥 foods, and what that means for the future of nutrition as treatment. With case studies, biomedical depth and surprising insights. Don't expect dietary advice, but a sharp look at metabolic health from a real-world perspective.
Madelon Bracke, PhD
Madelon is a biomedical scientist and entrepreneur, with extensive experience in research and innovation at the intersection of science and practice. As co-founder and Chief Scientific Officer of healthtech startup Clear.bio, she combines academic depth with a passion for innovation within healthcare.
A BMWit of Nostalgia
In this workshop we look back on 40 years of Biomedical Sciences together. You can share your funniest, most memorable or most bizarre moments you experienced within the program. Using low-threshold assignments, we will collect your memories and experiences. Everything you want to share will later have a nice place in a tangible memory that will be shared! In short: dive along into BMWeetjes of nostalgia and contribute to a beautiful portrait of 40 years of BMW!
Estelle Hunter
Estelle is a biomedical sciences student who also does the Honors program. Partly because of this, who is very involved in the program, which Estelle has since fallen a little in love with. Estelle is very curious about everyone's stories and would like to sketch a portrait of them to share this love.
What will biomedical research look like in 2065?
In this creative workshop you will work in small groups with visual storytelling. You will invent a future scenario for biomedical science and represent it in a comic strip, storyboard or poster. Think big: AI doctors, ethical dilemmas or human-machine hybrids? No drawing experience necessary - imagination is key. At the end, you present your story to the rest. A fun, approachable way to think about the future of your field!

Escape Room at M.B.V. Mebiose
鈥淥h no, there's been an accident at the lab! A virus has escaped and you and your colleagues are trapped!'' Use your knowledge and skills as biomedical scientists, to quickly escape the lab before you are infected by the virus! Will you manage to solve all the riddles? Sign up now for the Escape Room at the M.B.V. Mebiose association room. Teams may have a size of 4 to 6 members!鈥
Noah Riem
Noah Riem is an undergraduate student of Biomedical Sciences. During his year on the board, Noah developed a heart for education and innovation, so he is heavily involved in educational development within the program and Utrecht 木瓜福利影视.
