Interview with Maryam Lyousoufi, IMC Weekendschool

鈥淭alent is multicultural, but you have to provide the opportunity to develop talent.鈥

Opportunity for talent

Pharmacy student Maryam Lyousoufi thinks it is 鈥渁 waste and painful鈥 that there are children who receive a VWO advice, but cannot graduate from VWO due to a lack of stimulation. She is involved in the IMC Weekendschool to give pupils just that extra bit. She received the ECHO Award for her dedication to the Weekendschool, among other things.

Going to school in the weekend

鈥淭alent is multicultural, but you have to provide people the opportunity to develop their talents,鈥 Maryam says. That is the goal of the ; a three-year course in which children with 鈥渓ess opportunities鈥 from seventh grade onwards meet professionals from different fields of expertise. This is to stimulate children to discover who they are and what they want.

At the top of your own ladder

As a former participant, Maryam knows very well what this can mean. 鈥淏y seeing at such a young age what you can do, you can fully realize your talent. The goal isn't to put children at the top of the social ladder, but at the top of their own ladders. This doesn't mean everyone can attend university, but I think that the IMC Weekendschool contributes to diversity in higher education in the long run.鈥
