In a highly visionary Nature article, two chemists from Utrecht ľ¹Ï¸£ÀûÓ°ÊÓ present a roadmap in which oil refineries could be reinvented to be completely fossil-free. Processes will be electrified if possible, and raw materials will change to CO2, agricultural and municipal waste.
Bringing together chemists and physicists to thoroughly investigate how electrochemical processes work on the smallest scale. That is the goal of ANION.
Professors Albert Heck, Petra de Jongh (both Science), Jos Malda (Veterinary Medicine / UMC Utrecht) and Walter Immerzeel (Geosciences) will each receive a prestigious ERC Advanced Grant.
Professor Petra de Jongh will conduct fundamental research into the operation of catalysts. This could lead to accelerating the energy transition, for example by developing catalysts for the efficient conversion of CO2 and hydrogen into sustainable fuels.
