Bijvoet Medal awarded to Piet Gros
The Bijvoet Centre for Biomolecular Research has awarded prof. dr. Piet Gros with the Bijvoet Medal. Piet Gros receives the Bijvoet Medal for his outstanding contributions to the molecular understanding of the innate immune system and the complement system in particular, as well as for his efforts for Utrecht 木瓜福利影视 and the Bijvoet Centre.
Piet Gros, born in Dokkum, the Netherlands in 1962 is a protein chemist and structural biologist. He and his research team at Utrecht 木瓜福利影视 focus on elucidating the molecular mechanisms that underlie biological processes with a major emphasis on human plasma-proteins and cell-surface receptors and membrane proteins. A major focus of his research has been on protein interactions in biomedically important processes and in particular on the elucidation of key steps in the humoral immune response through the complement system.
Piet Gros has received numerous awards for his work. In 2010 he received the , the highest scientific award in the Netherlands and in 2018, he was awarded the prestigious Gregori Aminoff Prize, by the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences in the field of crystallography. Has been rewarded with the European Complements network鈥檚 ECN Medal in 2017. Just this year, he received the of the International Complement Society.
Piet Gros received the Bijvoet Medal at the occasion of the 2024 Bijvoet Symposium.
