Many teachers are already preparing to teach on Brightspace from 1 September 2025. For example, by taking the steps in “”. Perhaps you have already completed the basic training external link or have already started preparing your course in Brightspace using the . When designing your course in Brightspace, it helps to see it from the eyes of your students. That is why we developed the “Brightspace Student Experience for Teachers”; an interactive Brightspace course that teachers can sign up for via . 

DThe course is developed following the good example of Leiden ľ�ϸ���Ӱ��, which has already been working with Brightspace since 2020. , educational advisor blended learning at Leiden ľ�ϸ���Ӱ��, says: 

There are a lot of possibilities within Brightspace that are not always visible or known to everyone. And it is often not clear how students experience these possibilities. This is why we developed the Student Experience for Teachers (SET) course, in which teachers themselves step into the role of student and go through a Brightspace module.

The course has been live for almost a year now, and it is nice to see teachers actively stopping by to ask how they can apply an activity from the SET course in their own teaching. Of course, we are happy to help with that. We also often recommend the course to new teachers, so they can get acquainted with the possibilities in an accessible way. Nice to see that it continues to work that way.

Utrecht variant

Following the good experiences in Leiden, the Centre For Academic Teaching and Learning has built an Utrecht variant. Keyuser innovation tools Lana Hoekstra, one of the builders, says:

''This course deals with a subject we are all familiar with: the city of Utrecht. While you learn more about the city and its history, you experience the functionalities Brightspace has to offer from a student's perspective. The course is designed so that you can go through it in its entirety as well as view a single tool or functionality. For example, you can experience how a quiz from a student's perspective works in Brightspace. But also experience various other  as a student; for example, working in an ''

Hopefully, this will give teachers a good idea of what is possible in Brightspace and inspire them to apply these possibilities in their own teaching.

As of now, the “Student experience for teachers” is available in Brightspace. You can register yourself via  and then go through the course at your own pace without obligation.
