By: Nienke van Keulen
In 2025, the global takes place from the 3rd until the 7th of March. During this week, you will read a series of 5 daily posts, showcasing the wide range of Open Education aspects and initiatives at UU, and how you can contribute!
The Centre for Academic Teaching and Learning (CAT) supports teachers in understanding and implementing the principles of Open Education. It's possible to discuss these principles with an adviser, or follow one of the CAT's courses, workshops, or online modules. Below you can find some initiatives.
Recently, CAT and Educational Development and Training organized an elective course for directors of education, in which they worked with Open Education as one of the design principles of the new educational model. In addition, new teachers can follow the three-day course Start to Teach to get acquainted with the new educational model and its design principles.
As a teacher, you can join different courses and trajectories that highlight various aspects of Open Education. For example, in the course Interdisciplinary Education, you learn the skills necessary to design and teach interdisciplinary courses, and how to overcome challenges related to this form of teaching. The course Community Engaged Learning focuses on designing education that is embedded in society: experience-based learning in which students, teachers and societal partners work together on relevant issues.
If you really want to open your education, apply for the Peer Observation Programme. There, you will visit and be visited by a colleague to provide each other feedback to learn from each other.
