Five teachers granted SoTL funding to examine their own teaching approach
The combined mission of Utrecht ľ¹Ï¸£ÀûÓ°ÊÓ and the Centre for Academic Teaching is to enhance the quality of academic education by stimulating teacher development, teaching innovation and educational scholarship. The newly implemented Scholarship of Teaching & Learning (SoTL) Grants facilitate this, by stimulating teachers to conduct a systematic inquiry of their own teaching practice. A total amount of €100.000,- is reserved for the SoTL grants.
Grant proposals have a maximum budget of €5.000,-. This can be used for relatively small-scale projects, such as adjusting a lecture, implementing more blended learning in a course or trying our new teaching methods. Teachers are thus invited to examine their own classroom practice, record their successes and failures and disseminate their experiences to their peers.
In the very first round of these grants, the following five projects were allocated a SoTL grant:
| Project | Project leader | Faculty |
|---|---|---|
| Designing a sustainable Lesson Study approach to training teaching assistants | Roald Verhoeff | Science |
| Student perception of own competencies in pharmacology and pharmacotherapy | Rahul Pandit | Medicine |
| Critical thinking in the humanities: co-creating intended learning outcomes | Merel van Goch | Humanities |
| Tools to facilitate collaboration in undergraduate interdisciplinary student teams | Rianne van Lambalgen | Humanities |
| It's very relevant! Choices within interdisciplinary education on societal issues | Carlijn van den Boomen | Social and Behavioural Sciences |
