Below, you will find an overview of courses from the current academic year of this Master's. This overview is meant to give you an idea of what to expect. The course offer may change in the coming academic year.
Two-year study route
This Master鈥檚 programme does not have a formal part-time route; it is designed to be completed within one year of full-time study. However, if you are unable to fully dedicate yourself to your studies - due to work, family responsibilities, or other commitments - you may opt for the two-year study route in the full-time programme. This option allows you to spread the workload across two years while still benefiting from a well-structured and cohesive learning experience.

In the first year, you will deepen your understanding of the key paradigms relevant to Youth, Education and Society, and you will explore intervention strategies to address related issues. In the second year, the focus shifts towards applying this knowledge through comparative analyses and practical assignments.
You can select this two-year option when applying for the Master鈥檚 programme in the Osiris application system. Please note: in the first year, you will only be enrolled in courses for that year (30 EC). You will be registered as a full-time student in both years, with the corresponding financial obligations.
Below, you will find the curriculum for the two-year study route of YES.

Courses
In periods 1 and 2, you will take 4 compulsory subjects, including the Practical course in which you will work in a small group to address a challenge in your own domain, depending on your track. You will also start the Academic Professional module, which runs throughout the year. This module will teach you skills geared towards continuous professional development. Among other things, you will join other students to organise meetings and debates with the professional field and you will work on developing your identity and skills as an academic professional. This will enable you to continue playing a professional role in the changing society and labour market.
Internship and Master鈥檚 thesis
In period 2 you will already start preparing for your internship, which will take place during periods 3 and 4. We have a wide network with partners both in the Netherlands and abroad, especially in so called Developing Countries, but you are also invited to bring in your own internship organisation. In all cases the internship needs to be approved by the programme. Students ideally develop their thesis in close collaboration with their internship organisation.
If you want to learn more about the internship options, send an email to master.yes@uu.nl or register for one of our Internship information meetings.
